Luxury Business Management: SDA Bocconi and Bulgari team up

The class will be run in partnership with Bulgari, the Italian maker of luxury watches, jewellery and perfume. The new course is available to 20 participants (apply by end of April 2011). One of the distinctions at Bocconi is that the programme will not be solely about brand management, but will include classes on logistics, manufacturing and supply chain management. Successful participants will receive an MBA degree from SDA Bocconi plus a certificate from Bulgari and the university in Luxury Business Management.

Valter Lazarri, director of the SDA MBA programme, says this is the first time the school has introduced a sector-based track rather than a functional-based one, such as strategy, corporate finance, innovation or marketing. It is also the first time that the business school has worked specifically with one company.

Faculty from Bocconi will teach about 80 per cent of the luxury goods track, Bulgari managers 20 per cent, and part of the programme will be taught at Bulgari's headquarters in Rome. Also part of the program is a two-month in-company project in an international branch of the Bulgari Group or at another company in the luxury industry.

Bulgari is one of the global players on the luxury market. In 2010 the Group posted a turnover of more than a billion Euros, created in 283 stores around the world. SDA Bocconi School of Management is the business school of Università Bocconi, one of the leading unis in Italy. In the 2011 Financial Times MBA ranking an MBA from Bocconi ranked 10th in Europe.
